Mary-Louise Morgan grew up reading romance novels, sweeping epics, and Stephen King on a farm in southeastern Illinois, and she never fully recovered from any of that. After earning her MFA in creative writing (fiction), she worked as a proofreader, copy editor, technical writer, freelance writer, and newspaper reporter before she finally achieved her overly practical childhood dream of being an English professor. She kept reading and writing along the way, and her short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry have been published in various literary journals and magazines. However, she didn’t finish a novel-length manuscript until she began writing her own contemporary romance, The Viking Across the Street; she knew then that romance was her happy place as a writer, and she’s never looked back. She left full-time teaching to work as a freelance writer and editor while she writes her next romance.
Mary lives in the wilds of southeastern Illinois with her supportive and long-suffering husband and their two overly talkative younger children, and she lives for the days when her oldest daughter and precocious grandson come over to visit. Between the husband, the children, writing, reading, editing, and watching as many TV series as possible, she can’t remember the last time she was bored.
It was probably in the ‘90s.
